I'm 16 years old and a professional ballet dancer in Boston Ballet II, which is the apprentice company for Boston Ballet. I work eight hours a day, six days a week, and I would not want to do anything else. During the 2011 winter holidays, I danced The Nutcracker with 40 performances and a lot of late nights. I love getting up on stage, becoming someone different, and performing for an audience that may have never seen ballet before. Even though I'm only one person among a company of 50, my participation may change someone else's life. Maybe a young child is watching his or her first Nutcracker—and is so captivated that they want to start dance classes! Because of this, I feel proud to be part of such an influential organization. As part of Boston Ballet II, I'm also involved in their five other productions throughout the season. Plus, I'll be performing in outreach programs that bring ballet to elementary school children who might not otherwise be exposed to this wonderful art.
